History, language arts, speech and debate, economics, and role-playing game all in one class!

Model United Nations is a two-semester course that introduces students to the world of diplomacy, negotiation, and decision-making through an authentic simulation of the United Nations General Assembly. Student “delegates” will act as members of the UN, representing countries from all over the world. They will research and debate real-life global issues from the perspective of the country they represent, and they will learn how the international community acts on its concerns about peace and security, human rights, the environment, food and hunger, economic development, and globalization. Students will gain valuable skills in public speaking, research, writing, negotiation,  powers of persuasion, leadership, organization, and interpersonal communication through assignments and class activities and by playing the role of United Nations delegates at regional Model UN conferences.

MUN gives kids the opportunity to have fun and form friendships while building self-confidence and learning very useful academic, social, and professional skills. MUN is taught by Mrs. Murphy, an alumna of Best Delegate’s MUN Advisors’ Institute.

Optional regional MUN conferences: We will periodically attend optional regional MUN conferences. All conferences we attend will comply with state and local health guidelines, which means we may attend only virtual conferences for the 2020-2021 school year. Conferences take place on the weekends, and students/parents will be responsible for their own transportation (if applicable) and the cost of registration for each conference (typically around $65 for high school students and $35 for middle school students).

Meets 55 minutes per week for two semesters.
